One of the more popular initiatives of the OELT is the Elementary Basketball League which in October. The league is open to students in the fourth through eighth grades. Students who play in the league must meet academic requirements prior to qualifying for the school team. This requirement is strictly enforced to impress upon students the importance of building academic skills along with athletic prowess. The winning teams go to the play-off rounds and eventually compete in the Elementary Basketball League Championship Games. The champions are honored at an annual Elementary Basketball League/Cheerleaders Competition Championship Banquet sponsored by the OESDP and community collaborators. Transportation to all games is provided.
