ABOUT THE OFFICE OF ELT

The Office of Expanded Learning Time (OELT) oversees the administration and implementation of the majority of district-run after school programs, initiatives, and the Dr. Marion A. Bolden Student Center.
Staffed with a full time director and supervisor, the OESDP employs certified teachers, a security guard, custodian, and food service workers at each After School Youth Development Program (ASYDP) site. The critical practice of hiring Newark Public Schools’ teachers and ancillary staff helps to ensure student safety, access to highly qualified personnel, and continuity of instruction based on district mandates.
The OESDP implements four major programs:
-
After School Youth Development Program (ASYDP)
-
the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC)
-
Nutrition Program and Summer Youth Development Program
The OESDP is also responsible for the Dr. Marion A. Bolden Student Center, its programs, and activities, as well as a multitude of other initiatives and community collaborations. All of the programs combined service approximately 8,000 students daily at over 60 different schools.
